Kurt Cobain is one of the music industry’s most tragic losses. As well as a daughter, Cobain left behind a lot of fans after his suspected suicide. And, diehard fans have deep pockets.

Cobain’s iconic cigarette-singed cardigan worn during Nirvana’s 1993 “Unplugged” performance has sold for $334,000, almost three-times what it’s previous owner paid. Garrett Kletjian, bought it four years ago for $137,500. Speaking about the cardigan the CEO and president of Julien’s Auctions said, “This cardigan, it’s the holy grail of any article of clothing that he ever wore. Kurt created the grunge look; he didn’t wear show clothes.”

Cobain famously wore the cardigan during a performance of MTV’s “Unplugged.” The performance took place just six months before his alleged suicide and was released after his death. Despite his obvious melancholic state, this has made it one of his most iconic outfits and performances.

After the performance, Cobain expressed to the show’s producer that he felt as though the audience didn’t enjoy the performance. She replied “Kurt, they think you are Jesus Christ.”
