Indians are outraged at a Twitter comment from McDonalds which said that all of its meat was halal-certified. McDonalds was simply replying to a query from a customer as to whether their food was halal, however, the public response quickly stirred up controversy. Many residents began complaining that there was no place for Muslim rituals in the predominantly Hindu country.
Twitter users, namely right-wing Hindu extremists, have expressed distaste online
Did #McDonalds issue a statement on why they don’t purchase meat other than halal?
Or are they hoping we simply forget?#boycottmcdonalds #IncomeTax #UrbanNaxals— Long Tongued Indian (@ImIndiasMe) September 14, 2019
Why Hindus/sikhs have to eat halal food when it is prohibited for them?
MacDonald must provide a way to order non halal food as well. Until then – #boycottmcdonalds #BoycottMcDonaldsHALAL

Wow I didn’t knew that you are an Islamic Foodchain franchise.?
I will never eat from this restaurant which serves food gone through Islamic practices.
You won’t survive a day in India by catering only to 15% Muslims.?#boycottmcdonalds#BoycottMcDonaldsHALAL— ASHUTOSH K MISHRA (@imakmishra) August 23, 2019

@mcdonaldsindia
Why are you forcing Halal meat on us Hindus and Sikhs ?
We can’t eat any Halal certified meat, its against our religion and practises.
You can’t satisfy one particular religion standing on the beliefs of other Religions.#BoycottMcDonaldsHALAL #boycottmcdonalds— Pinki ?? (@PinkiBl0) August 23, 2019
The term “halal” refers to the Islamic form of slaughtering animals, which does not involve stunning. Stunning is prohibited in the Islamic faith, according to the Halal Food Authority (HFA), a non-profit organisation that monitors adherence to halal principles. How the animal is slaughtered does not affect the religion of the animal or its consumer.
